Mustang

Mustang
A copy of this image - which began as a photograph of one of the Las Colinas mustangs - has been donated to the nonprofit group Clear Rounds for Clean Water. It will be auctioned off at the horse show in Tyler this weekend to raise money to support the efforts to provide clean, safe drinking water to people around the world who do not have it. CRCW works in conjunction with Rotary International.

Purple Iris

Purple Iris

I don't take as many flower photographs as I once did, but maybe I should. They are often one of the things we don't even notice in our busy daily routines. But they are so lovely, and most people love images of beautiful flowers. This iris was photographed in my yard last spring. I wanted just the one image to stand out, so I did some digital work on it to soften the background and enhance the flower. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you have a great weekend.

White Rock Lake Sunset

White Rock Lake Sunset
I am fortunate to live near White Rock Lake, one of the Dallas area's true treasures. I am also a fan of sunsets and have seen many spectacular ones at the lake. Hope you enjoy this one. Thanks for viewing my blog and have a great day!

Colors of Rust #1

Colors of Rust #1
This abstract image was created from the rusty fender of a 1957 Mercedes Benz that was parked beside a southern Oklahoma highway. When digitally manipulated, rust sometimes produces beautiful, vibrant colors, and I am always surprised to see the transformations that occur through this process. This is one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy it too.

"38 Ford #20

"38 Ford #20

Old rusty automobiles are one of my favorite photo subjects. This '38 Ford pickup caught my eye after driving off the ferry from Galveston to Boliver. Since photographing it, I have seen one other shot of this same truck taken by another photographer. My fear is that it was destroyed, along with almost everything else on Boliver, by Hurricane Ike.

Water Lily

Water Lily

This water lily is an image from my flora series and another that has been enhanced through digital manipulation. I wanted the image to have the appearance of having been painted rather than photographed. Hope you enjoy it.

San Juan Mission Door

San Juan Mission Door

This image is another from the San Antonio missions - Mission San Juan. I love the texture of the mission wall and the lone sentinel cactus guarding the door. I hope you enjoy it.

Lioness

Lioness

I love cats. There is such a mystery about them, and they are such beautiful, majestic creatures. I hope to someday see lions in the wild. For now, this will have to do. Hope you enjoy this image.

Summer Palace Dock

Summer Palace Dock
Another image from China. The Summer Palace is reached by taking a "dragon boat" across a lake. As we approached the landing, my eyes were drawn to this charming dock where the boats are harbored for the night. I love the colors in this image - the bright golds of the smaller roofs contrasted with the dark grays of the larger ones, the deep red of the large building, and the red faded to pink on the smaller one. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into China. And thanks for visiting my blog.

Vegas Neon

Vegas Neon

This is another digitally manipulated photograph I took a while back in Las Vegas. I love the repetitive circular patterns of the monorail station entrance juxtaposed against the rectangular shapes of the surrounding buildings and the wonderful, somewhat muted colors in this image.

Canyon Wren

Canyon Wren
This image of a canyon wren was taken in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas. It has been digitally manipulated to give the sky, bird, and tree more variation and definition. The Valley is a wonderful area for birding. Species can be seen there that can be seen nowhere else in the United States.
Hope your week is off to a great start!

Mission Estrada

Mission Estrada

While Mission Estrada is the smallest of the missions along the San Antonio Mission Trail, to me, it has the most character. This image was taken early on a Sunday afternoon as people were still mingling outside after services. As the people chatted, the mission cat enjoyed the attention of the many children who were in attendance. Eventually the people wandered home, the cat napped on a low stone wall, and the Mission retreated into quiet.

Sampans

Sampans

This is another image from my China series. These sampans were spotted as we cruised down the Yangtze River. Surprisingly, these were the only small boats we saw on the Yangtze that had sails. Most of the fishing boats and houseboats we saw were propelled by motors...another sign of the changes we saw in all the places we visited in China.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you enjoy the images here.

Crested Caracara

Crested Caracara

This immature crested caracara was photographed on Padre Island National Seashore a while back. The adolescent and it's parents were just hanging out in the grassy area across the road from the beach, sitting on fence posts, and posing for photos. Being so close to these three magnificent birds was a real treat, and getting great close-up photographs was icing on the cake!

On The Bayou

On The Bayou

There's something about old, deteriorating wooden boats that always catches my eye. This one was discovered in southwest Louisiana. I love the rust color and the reflection of the boat in the water. Hope you enjoy it.

China Camp Pier

China Camp Pier
This image was taken a while back at China Camp State Park in California. At one time, China Camp was a bustling village inhabited by Chinese shrimpers and fishermen. Today it is a lovely, quiet park with a beautiful beach and a small museum commemorating the Chinese people who once lived there.

For Sale

For Sale

I love photographing old rusty cars and trucks. When you work with the images in PhotoShop, the rusty areas are transformed into wonderful, vibrant colors. These cars were discovered last winter along a strip of highway in Oklahoma. Shanghai Garden Wall

Shanghai Garden Wall
This image was taken in Yu Garden in Shanghai. It was accepted into the American Juried Art Salon's Spring/Summer online exhibition: www.artjuty.com.
I love the contrast between the smooth flowing design and lighter shades of the lower wall with the dark, jagged edges of the building roof. I love oriental architecture, so I was in Heaven while in China.

In Dreams

In Dreams

This image is included in the TVAA "Nonobjective" show that starts today at the TVAA Downtown Gallery and runs weekdays 10-4 through August 29th. Nonobjective work is that which includes no recognizable object. The artist uses the components of texture, design, color, line, and juxtaposition of positive and negative space to hopefully evoke an emotional rather than intellectual response from the viewer.

This work is available in a limited edition of 25 (signed and numbered on verso). For more information about this piece or to see more of my work, please visit my website: http://www.janpartinphotography.com/.

When Gas Was Cheap

When Gas Was Cheap

This nostalgic scene caught my eye as I was driving down I35 last winter.....a small sketch of yesterday sitting in the midst of today. Since I love photographing old cars and trucks, as well as anything rusty, this was a not to be missed opportunity. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
